Help your Grade 5 learner prepare for the June examinations with this comprehensive ATP-aligned English First Additional Language practice test, complete with a full memorandum. The test is 40 marks and has a duration of 1½ hours.
The test includes:
- Reading Comprehension – 15 marks: an informational text about the first video game console – the Magnavox Odyssey, assessing comprehension, sequencing events, true or false, extracting information, identifying limitations, interpreting information and giving opinions with reasons.
- Visual Text Analysis – 10 marks: interpreting a Cadbury and Springboks advertisement, including its purpose, products, slogan, target market and promotional details, as well as analysing colour choices, persuasive techniques and visual appeal.
- Summary Writing – 5 marks: summarising an informational passage about the positive and negative effects of video games into a well-structured 40–50 word paragraph using the learner's own words.
- Language – 10 marks: nouns, collective nouns, verbs, subject-verb agreement, adjectives, pronouns, past tense, future tense, sentence types and punctuation.
