About this resource

Help your Grade 4 learner prepare for Term 4 History with this ATP-aligned 25-mark practice test, complete with a full memorandum. The test has a duration of 30 minutes.

The test covers:

  • Communication through time – 10 marks: the development of communication methods, including the postal system, telegraph, typewriter, radio, telephone, computers and the internet.
  • Modern & Early Communication: understanding how communication has changed over time and distinguishing between older and newer technologies.
  • Communication Timeline: placing important developments in chronological order, including radio signals, the moon landing, television in South Africa and the development of the World Wide Web.
  • Cell Phones, Typewriters & the Internet: advantages and disadvantages of cell phones, the purpose of early typewriters and how the internet changed access to information.
  • Important People & Inventions: Samuel Morse and Morse Code, as well as George Eastman and the Kodak camera.

Question types include: multiple choice, true or false, timeline activities, short-answer questions, advantages and disadvantages, explanations and fill-in-the-blanks.
